Circle of Security Parenting
At times all parents feel lost or without a clue about what our child might need from us. Imagine what it might feel like if you were able to make sense of what your child was really asking from you. The Circle of Security parenting programme is based on 50 years of attachment theory and research about how parent/child relationships can be supported and strengthened. It is a reflective therapeutic parenting programme; it makes attachment theory accessible and applicable to parents.
Attachment theory provides a framework for understanding children’s fundamental relational needs and our responses to those needs as caregivers.
Watch this wonderful video introduction to the circle below.
The course is suitable for any parent and child relationship; the material is aimed at parenting younger children but the underlying principles apply to all parent-child relationships. It is suitable for parents who are struggling with parenting and also for those who want to reinforce and enhance already strong relationships.
The course is run over 8 sessions of approximately 1 to 1.5 hours each, using videos, handouts and discussions. Evening slots by arrangement to suit you.
I offer 1:1 sessions with couples or single parents, during the times of COVID-19.
This course is currently being run on Zoom.

What was the best thing about the COSP course?
“Mary-Clare! She is a kind, supportive and non-judgemental trainer. She is also a fount of all knowledge on all things baby related and didn't mind going off-topic to share some of her hints and tips with us. It was great to do the course with my partner. We realised we had the same priorities for our daughter. The course helped us work on ourselves, work together and complement one another as a parenting team (...in progress)!
Knowing that we only have to be 'good enough' has helped us forgive ourselves more quickly when we don't get it right…As a parent it is easy to focus on what you do badly. Talking about our day-to-day experiences with Mary-Clare helped us not to dwell on 'bad' moments or let them cloud our progress…
Thanks again for all your help. It has changed the way we deal with those tough moments…I used to feel overwhelmed when my baby was angry or upset. The course helped me recognise my own emotions and when I was acting on impulse. I now find it easier to 'be with' my child through each of her emotions and override my own urge to panic.”
